Positive Mosquito EEE

Eastern Equine Encephalitis, triple E, virus has been detected in mosquitoes in Raynham for the second time this year. The mosquito sample was collected on August 13th, 2007 in Raynham. The sample included Culiseta melanura mosquitoes which are considered bird biters. While this is the second appearance for triple E virus, per the Massachusetts Department of Public Health the overall mosquito numbers are down for this time of year.
As of this date, no birds or mosquito pools have tested positive for West Nile Virus in Raynham.
