Minutes of March 3,2003 meeting of Council on Aging


Chair Loretta Wood called the meeting to order at 9:39 A.M. Present were, Board Members, Loretta Wood, Betty Thompson, M. Patrice White, Yvonne Quinlan, Theresa Galligan and Kathleen Roberts. John Montagno was excused. Also in attendance were director Joyce Rodrigue and outreach worker, Peggy Evers.
        The secretary and treasurer’s report were accepted.
        The C.H.O.R.E.S. program was discussed. Linda Silva, Loretta Wood, Betty Thompson and Joyce Rodrigue will meet with Bill Barber for further discussion.
        Outreach worker Peggy Evers reported on meetings attended, client visits and referrals. She provided information on Mass Circuit Breaker and Prescription Advantage.
        Director Joyce Rodrigue repotted on meetings attended, telephone calls, RUOK program (a computerized telephone reassurance program), budget and long term care information.
        M. Patrice White represented the C.O.A. at Mike Favreau’s farewell get-together.
        Correspondence was received about reverse mortgages and also about defibrillators.
        The Men Only Breakfast will be on March 10, 2003, with sign-up dates March 4-6. The next MOB will be on May 12, 2003, with sign-up dates May 6-8. Non-residents’ names will be put on a waiting list.
        Discussion followed about organ repair, lights, and a Friend’s fund-raising yard sale.
        Corned beef and cabbage, Irish music and Door prizes will highlight the St.Patrick’s Day party on March 17,2003. Sign up dates are March 4-6.
        Future events include a trip to Foxwoods on April 17,2003, with sign-up April 1-3 – A Spring Fling on April 24,2003, with a sign-up April 8-10. A catered meal and banjo music entertainment will be provided. – A Baking and Cooking Show will be May 15,2003 – A Ladies Luncheon, with a catered meal and harp music, will be on May 22,2003, with sign-up May 6-8. – A lunch of soup, sandwiches, and dessert – with information about the RUOK program being presented at that time, will be held may 1,2003, with sign-up April 15-17.
        Some C.O.A. members will attend the next Selectmen’s meeting when finance committee, selectmen, and department heads will discuss budgets.
        Discussion followed about door chimes and the need for a walkway from the rear door of the Center’s function room.
        The board voted to purchase a mailbox and notify the Post Office that the center now has a mailbox in addition to the Post office box, which will continue to be used as their primary mailing address.
        Betty Thompson will contact the sheriff’s office to get on their list to have the Center restained.
        The board voted to have Leo Sorel put shelves on the walls of the craft room.
Suggestions were received from Theresa Galligan and Yvonne Quinlan about future events. Discussion followed. No action was taken, and the suggestions were tabled.
Betty Thompson, Yvonne Quinlan and Bocce players will meet with Robert Smith, of Park and Recreation, about Bocce courts.
Joyce Rodrigue will meet with Richard McCarthy to discuss some building issues.
Vouchers were signed.
