Minutes of C.O.A. Board Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 9:34. Present were: chair Betty L. Thompson, vice-chair Yvonne Quinlan, treasurer Theresa Galligan, secretary M. Patrice White, John Montagano, Kathleen Roberts, Loretta Wood, director Joyce A. Rodrigue.
Postmaster Denise Hartwell presented a framed enlargement of the most recently released stamp. It is of the Korean War Veterans Memorial.
The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were accepted.
Peggy Evers, Outreach worker, reported on the meetings she had attended and the visits she had made. There was an influx of clients regarding Prescription Advantage enrollment.
Joyce Rodrigue, director, reported on the flu clinic, which is for people 65 and older and will e held on October 28, work on floor, possible future programs, and grants.
Theresa Galligan and Paulie Breen attended the BES annual meeting and Theresa is now vice-president of the BES executive board. Loretta Wood will continue to represent COA at BES meetings. Betty Thompson said that there will be workshops presented to explain the town’s new accountant’s changes.
Thank you notes were received from seniors who had enjoyed the COA activities
Betty will notify the sheriff’s office that we wish to remain on their work list.
All September activities went well and attendance was good.
Theresa and Kathleen will work with Joyce to fine tune the procedure to select volunteers eligible to attend the volunteers luncheon.
Loretta asked that board members each receive an updated copy of bylaws stamped with the month and year that they were presented to the selectmen’s office at Town Hall.
Betty met with Michael Lovecchio, Mary Ann Mozzone and Diane McGuire at Bridgewater Raynham. The BR juniors and seniors will set up a table to encourage freshmen and sophomores to participate in the volunteer program. The COA board voted to pay expenses for that promotion.
Betty reported that Boy Scout troop 79 will help with the senior center yard work.
The osteoporosis presentation and lunch will be on Oct. 14, painting class on 10/20, and the Halloween party on Oct. 30th, with sign up 10/14, 15, 16.
The MOB is 11/10, with sign-up 11/4-6. Selectmen will honor a 100 year old resident. Arts and crafts show on 11/20 . New Years party on January 2, 2004 with sign-up 12/9-11. A WOB will be on 12/8, with sign up 12/2-4. A MOB on 1/12 with sign-up 1/6-8. Party at Venus 12/3 with sign-up 11/4-6
Thank you notes will be sent to Mr. Mirrione for his offer to host a party for Raynham seniors and to Wal Mart for their $1,000 check.
Betty reported that more money has been donated for the construction of a second Bocce court.
Barbara LaFlamme will do a program on decorated eggs in the spring. A “cooking for one or two” program will be presented at the first of the year. A wreath making class to be the first part of Dec., and a hay ride followed by light refreshments back at the center, sometime in November or December, were discussed.
Kathleen will apply for a grant for entertainment for the Spring Fling.
Purchase of an efficient dishwasher was discussed and tabled for further discussion at the November meeting.
Holiday decorations at the center were discussed. Outgoing chair Loretta Wood was presented with a gift.
The center will be closed 11/ 27&28.
