The Board of Health is responsible for the control and prevention of disease. Prevention of illness, injury and disability is paramount. The Board of Health is dedicated to the promotion of public and environmental health through the education and support of the Citizens of the Town.
As a statutory agency, the Board of Health promulgates rules and regulations which serve as a guide in its administration of the law. The regulations provide for the issuance of permits and licenses, establish reasonable standards and requirements, and set out enforcement and penalty mechanisms. Some specific activities that the Board oversees include: sewage disposal, drainage, solid waste management, offensive or noisome trades, general nuisance, lead paint and housing, tobacco, air/noise pollution, water quality, food protection, and health promotion.
