Board of Selectmen June 27, 2017
Chairman Karen Donahue called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.
Present were Joseph Pacheco and Karen Donahue and Marie Smith
Acceptance of the Minutes
Mr. Pacheco motioned and Mrs. Smith seconded to accept the minutes of the June 13, 2017 meeting as printed, Mrs. Donahue made it unanimous.
Department Heads & Committees
Mr. Ed Buckley, Highway Superintendent was present to give his monthly report. The first treatment of Johnson’s Pond had been done and they will be back in the fall to deal with the Cat and Nine Tails. They are working on the basketball reconstruction project at the Merrill School. They will be working on road paving projects scheduled for Church and River Streets and River Brook Drive in August. They will be doing some crack sealing and line striping before September. Parks and Grounds are very busy mowing and the Highway Department is doing brush mowing and street sweeping. They have installed the flags along the roads, with the help of Mr. Dan Andrade in honor of the Fourth of July. He has sent two men to wood chipper training class in Bridgewater.
Chief Jim Donovan was present to give his monthly report. The Department has logged 1,420 incidents and 52 people were booked. There were 2 non-fatal over doses that were responded to. The new computer equipment is in full progress and is expected to go live in July. Mike Flaherty completed the State Police Municipal Academy on Friday at his own expense and on his own time. Det. Sergeant Bonapart has officially notified Chief Donovan that he is retiring in August after over 40 years of service to the Town and he will be missed. Mrs. Smith wanted to thank him for his years of service and wished him the best.
Town Administrator’s Report
Mr. Flaherty reviewed the Town Administrator’s Report. The vendors who have been selected for the North School projects for painting and door replacement work have begun. Mr. Flaherty is waiting for an additional bid for the downstairs plumbing work from (B & D, RMC, and Kennedy)
The MA ADA Grant – the grant was accepted but needs an invoice to be submitted for funding.
Mr. Flaherty is waiting on Palmer Lock to submit a bid for the front door plate.
There have been 28 applications received for the position of Senior Clerk in the Treasurer’s Office.
The next Selectmen’s Meeting will be held on July 11th, as there will be no meeting on July 4th.
A Special Town Meeting will be held on June 27th at 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall.
The next Department Head Meeting will be held on July 13th.
A letter of resignation was received from Laurie Clark from the Treasurer’s Office, effective January 19th 2018. Mrs. Smith made a motion to accept with regret, Mr. Pacheco seconded and Mrs. Donahue made it unanimous.
6:39 p.m. Mr. Pacheco motioned and Mrs. Smith seconded to adjourn for the performance of administrative duties, signing of Bills and Warrants and with an Executive Session to follow with no business to be conducted afterwards. Mrs. Donahue made it unanimous.
