FREE NUTRITION WORKSHOP                                         April 29
The Park and Recreation Department is offering a FREE nutrition workshop on April 29, for Raynham residents.  This workshop will be presented by Monica Lebre, MS RD LDN and will cover the following topics: healthy eating for weight management, being heart healthy, healthy snacking tips, reading food labels, portion control , eating out healthy and staying active.  This program will be held at the Raynham Public Library and space is limited.  Call the Park and Recreation Department to register for this workshop.


RAYNHAM NIGHT AT CAMPANELLI STADIUM                             May 28
Join us Friday, May 28, 2010 for the 7th Annual Raynham Park and Recreation Night at Campanelli Stadium, home of the Brockton Rox.   Friday night games include a fire works show after the game.  Raynham residents can purchase tickets for only $8 for this 7:05 PM game versus the Atlantic City Surf.  To purchase tickets contact the Park and Recreation office at (508) 824-2743.

YOUTH FISHING DERBY                                             May 15
The Raynham Fire Dept. is sponsoring the Annual Youth Fishing Derby at Johnson Pond.  Anglers will compete in three age groups, 6 + under, 7-10 and 11-14.  Prizes in each age group will be awarded and free refreshments will be provided.  Registration will take place on the day of the event.  For more information contact Jim Mansfield at the Raynham Fire Dept.  
Time:  8am -12 pm
Registration: May 15 at 7am at the Raynham Fire Station


BUS TRIP to the STATUE OF LIBERTY & ELLIS ISLAND                        May 16
Join us Saturday, May 16th for a visit to the Statue of Liberty.  The trip includes motor coach transportation, roundtrip ferry from New Jersey’s Liberty Park to the Statue of Liberty and a visit to the recently restored Ellis Island.  There will be plenty of time to explore and have lunch on your own.  Departure time is 6AM with return home at approximately 11PM.   Advanced registration and payment are required.    For more information please call the Recreation office at 508-824-2743.   Children must be accompanied by an adult.

APRIL FUN CLUB                          April 20-23
The April Fun Club will be held at the Merrill School for children in grades K-6 during April vacation week.  The program will include a field trip on Wednesday to the Big Apple Circus which boasts an unforgettable performance by acrobats, jugglers, trapeze flyers and performing dogs!  On Thursday Curious Creatures will bring exotic and unusual animals to our program.  Friday we will have Ultimate Recess Day and every day we will play games an have arts and crafts projects.  Children are required to bring a bag lunch.

DRAMA KIDS WORKSHOP – Once Upon a Time          April 27 – June 1
Join us for 6 weeks of fun!  In this workshop for children in grades 2-4 will develop an appreciation of drama through pantomime, voice, small group improvisations and two-person scenes as they bring to life their favorite storybook characters. .  Learn how to have fun while entertaining your audience.  Give your favorite fairy tale a new modern twist!  This program is located at eh LaLiberte School.

YOUTH TRACK AND FIELD CLINIC                    April 22 – May 27  
Join the Bridgewater-Raynham High School Track and Field coach and team in this introductory program for students in grades 6th - 8th.  Students will learn the basics of running and be introduced to a variety of track events.  Students will learn the skills necessary to compete at the next level. Program will be held at the B-R High School Track in Bridgewater.

TINY TOTS SKATING LESSONS               May 6-June 24
Bridgewater Ice Arena in conjunction with the Raynham Park & Recreation Department is offering an eight week “Learn to Skate” program for children 18 months and up. The easiest and fastest way to prepare for hockey or figure skating!  Classes consist of 25 minutes of lesson time, story time, and 25 minutes of practice time. Instructed exclusively by accredited skating professionals.  Skaters grouped by age & ability.  Helmets and single blade skates required. Gloves or mittens are recommended as well as warm, layered clothing.  The program will be held at the Bridgewater Ice Arena, 20 Bedford Park, Bridgewater.

AMERICAN RED CROSS              April 21 & 22   
BABYSITTING TRAINING
The American Red Cross Babysitter Training is for individuals ages 11- 15.  This course provides individuals with the information and the skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adults.  All participants will receive a Babysitter Training Certification, Child & Infant CPR Certification, Babysitter’s Handbook and laminated skill card.  The course will be held at the Merrill School Cafeteria.  Please pack a lunch.

ULTIMATE RECESS                 April 5 - May 17
This program is for children in grades 2-4 and is a new twist on every child's favorite time of the school
day!  The participants will enjoy some of the classic recess games, including dodge ball, basketball, soccer, capture the flag, whiffle ball, and new games including bleacher ball and ultimate Frisbee.  This program will be held at the LaLiberte school gym.

INTRODUCTION TO GUITAR

Rick’s Music World in collaboration with the Raynham Park and Recreation Department is offering classes for children ages 8-12 and 13-18.  Instructor Marc Carvalho will teach the fundamentals of guitar playing in a small group setting.  Students will enjoy learning tips to help them play music faster and develop good techniques to build upon.~ Each student will need an acoustic guitar for practicing at home.  Teacher-approved student guitars are available for purchase. (maximum class size: 10 students)
The class will be held at Rick’s Music World, 421 Rt. 44, Raynham

Adult Programs


ADULT YOGA                                              April 5         
Registered yoga teacher, Evelyn Brown invites beginners and experienced individuals to explore the ancient science of yoga.  Hatha yoga will stimulate circulation, improve balance, strength, flexibility and reduce stress.  This 8 -week program is being offered for all skill levels at the Merrill School gymnasium (use main entrance for parking).  Please dress comfortably and bring a yoga mat.

ZUMBA                                                           April 7
Zumba combines high energy and motivating Latin and International music with unique dance moves and combinations that allow the Zumba participants to dance away their worries.  Have fun while toning and strengthening the body.  Zumba is not only great for the body, but is also great for the mind. This 8 week combination aerobics/ dance class will be held at the Merrill School Gymnasium.

BALLROOM DANCING CLASSES                        April 8
The Paris Academy of Dancing is offering adult dance classes through the Raynham Park and Recreation Department.  During this 8-week program participants will learn the foxtrot, salsa, swing and waltz.  Classes will be held at the Paris Academy of Ballroom Dancing at the Village South Plaza, 473 South St. West.

NORDIC WALKING                                          April 11  
Nordic Walking is walking with the use of specifically designed walking poles.  Nordic Walking uses both upper and lower body muscles, burning more calories faster then regular walking.  This 10 week program is a great way to improve your endurance and cardiovascular fitness. The instructional class will be held at the RMS track.  Poles are required and may be purchased with program registration.

WOMEN’S OPEN BASKETBALL                         April 7
Raynham residents ages 18 and over are welcome to participate in open gym basketball on Wednesday evenings beginning on April 7 - June 16 from 7:00 -9:00 pm.  The program will be held at the LaLiberte School. The format is pick-up games and players will be selected to play on a first come first serve basis.

MEN’S OPEN BASKETBALL                           April 8
Raynham residents ages 18 and over are welcome to participate in open gym basketball on Thursday evenings beginning on April 8 - June 17 from 6:30-8:00 pm.  The program will be held at the Raynham Middle School. The format is pick-up games and players will be selected to play on a first come first serve basis.   We reserve the right to validates Raynham residency.

CO-ED OPEN SOCCER                                                       
May 8th
Raynham residents ages 18 and over are welcome to participate in co-ed recreational soccer on Saturday mornings beginning on May 8th at 9:00 am.  The games will be held at the Arruda Soccer Field and the program is free for Raynham residents.   Pre-registration is not necessary

CO-ED SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT                       May 22 & May 23
Join Raynham for the Co-Ed Adult Softball Tournament on Saturday & Sunday May 22 & 23.  The tournament will be held at the Borden Colony softball field.  A maximum of 8 teams will compete to determine this year’s Raynham Tournament Champs.  Interested teams must contact the Park and Recreation office for registration forms and tournament details.  The cost per team is $225, maximum of 12 players per team.
