MINUTES OF THE RAYNHAM PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION
Regular Monthly Meeting, Sept. 5, 2017, 6:00 p.m.
South School, 305 South Street East, Raynham, MA
In Attendance: Commissioner Josh Daisy, Commissioner Chris Shaw, Director Andrea Berardi, and Administrative Assistant/Recording Secretary SJ Blanchard. Chairman Jim Brow arrived two minutes into the meeting’s start.
The meeting was called to order at 6:12 p.m. by Chris Shaw, acting as Chairman in light of Jim Brow’s delay. Josh made a motion to approve the minutes of the Aug. 8, 2017 meeting. Chris seconded the motion and the two voted in favor of the motion.
After the agenda had been printed and posted, indicating that Sel. Marie Smith would be in attendance, she opted not to attend the meeting.
Newly-hired childcare administrator Jordan DaSilva was in attendance to introduce herself to the commissioners present.
Andrea reported on the following:
- Tony Arruda has expressed interest in cutting additional agricultural acreage for his hay crops in addition to the Borden Colony farmland that he currently leases. Andrea pointed out that this would eliminate having to hire another firm to mow and keep the land farmable. She will check with Town Administrator Dave Flaherty relative to the lease that Arruda currently has with the town.
The Chairman arrived at this point in the meeting (6:14 p.m.).
- Work continues on the Pleasant Street outdoor basketball courts; the pavement is down and approximately ten parking spaces were also created.
The following fall field-use request was acted on:
- Raynham Giants Football requests the use of the Burke soccer field and the Borden Colony softball field from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on the Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays between Oct. 29 and Nov. 10, 2017. Andrea pointed out that their use of the Burke would be disruptive to RYS, so she plans to open up the season-resting multi-purpose field for just the 6 dates requested by the Giants. Chris made a motion to approve this permit request; Josh seconded and a unanimous vote followed.
Chris noted that he has spoken with Sel. Joe Pacheco relative to the renovations taking place at the Pleasant Street basketball courts and that Joe seems to be taking a lead in overseeing the project.
The Chairman said that he had spoken with Sel. Marie Smith relative to the situation with the cat adoptions which are currently taking place at the North School. The North School is earmarked as a repository for the storage of the town’s documents, many of them sensitive, and as such, Smith is against the building being open to the public. She has suggested that the Gymkhana building may lend itself to becoming a new site for the weekend cat adoption program.
Chris opined that the Commission needs to take a close look at how the Gymkhana building is currently being utilized and then arrange a meeting with the cat adoption group, the horse group, Andrea, and the Commission. Andrea will look into setting up the meeting.
Andrea presented Commissioners with copies of the month-ending June 30, 2017 accounting report, which reflects the balances for the 2017 fiscal year. She pointed out that she doesn’t yet have the FY2017-ending reports for the revolving accounts.
Andrea informed the Commissioners that this Saturday, Sept. 9th, is RYS’s opening day and that they are each invited to attend the ceremonies.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:26 p.m.
