Board of Selectmen Minutes 05/19/2009
May 19, 2009

Meeting called to order at 7:01 PM.

Present were Donald L. McKinnon, Marie Smith and Joseph Pacheco.

Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as written.

John Dolan was present for the Veterans Memorial Committee to honor the memory of Bruce Johnston III  with a Fallen Hero Sign.  The sign will be placed at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Michael Road.  His sister, Denise Johnston Kramer and her husband were present for the ceremony.

Mr. McKinnon welcomed Dan Andrade, Chairman of the Planning Board, for the interview of Russell Driscoll, 391 Britton St. and Martin O’Donnell, 223 Oak St.  Mr. Driscoll and Mr. O’Donnell had both sent letters of interest in the Planning Board vacancy.  A question and answer period followed.  Mr. Driscoll is a real estate broker.  Mr. O’Donnell is a licensed plumber, both self-employed.  Mr. McKinnon and Mr. Andrade agreed to convene a joint meeting on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 7:00 PM to vote to fill the vacancy.

Patricia Riley, Michelle Ennis and Robin Burns were present from RAVE to tell the Board about Volunteer Celebration week including the brunch on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 9:30 AM.

Shelly Coelho from Friends of the Raynham Public Library was present with others to talk about some upcoming library programs including the Friends Book Sale on Saturday, May 23 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM to raise money for the library and a Raynham Reads featuring Bill Bryson’s “A Walk in the Woods”.

Mr. Buckner read his Town Administrator’s report.

Mr. Smith moved and Mr. Pacheco seconded to request that Senator Pacheco and Representative Flynn file the petitions with the Senate and House respectively that were passed at Town Meeting on Monday night.  Mr. McKinnon made it unanimous.

Mr. Pacheco asked that the Board send correspondence to Senator Kennedy and Senator Kerry and Representative Frank, asking that Federal Stimulus money be made available for work on the Police stations.

The Board asked Mr. Buckner to contact Bridgewater Town Administrator to try to arrange a meeting.

 Correspondence:

Dr. Frank Gendreau, President of the Raynham Lions Club wrote the Board requesting another 5 year lease of King Philip Hall.  The Lions Club intended to do the following:  repair the back roof, install air conditioning, modernize the bathrooms and improve the kitchen.  Mr. Buckner will draw up a new least.

The Board received an application from Cushing Family Auto Sales, Inc. for a Class II License at 1690 Rt. 44.  The site has had a used car lot for many years.  Mrs. Smith moved and Mr. Pacheco seconded to set up a Hearing for a Class II Auto Dealers License at 1690 Rt. 44 for June 2, 2009 at 7:15 PM.  Mr. McKinnon made it unanimous.

On Mr. Buckner’s recommendation, Mrs. Smith moved and Mr. Pacheco seconded to award the bids for office supplies, copy paper and DPW supplies as listed by the Southeast Regional Services Group.  Mr. McKinnon made it unanimous.

8:42 PM Mrs. Smith moved and Mr. Pacheco seconded to adjourn to sign the warrants and payrolls, with no business to follow.  Mr. McKinnon made it unanimous.
