Board of Selectmen Minutes 09/07/2010


BOARD OF SELECTMEN                                                        September 7, 2010

Chairman Marie Smith called the regular meeting of the Raynham Board of Selectmen to order at 7:02pm.

Present were Marie Smith, Donald L. McKinnon and Joseph Pacheco.

Acceptance of the Minutes -- Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to accept the minutes of the August 24, 2010 meeting as printed.  Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.

Present was John McGarry, Veterans Memorial Committee.  Mr. McGarry is requesting the approval to install a “Fallen Hero Sign” in the name of Cpl. Timothy P. Jennings.  Mr. McGarry read the dedication of the “Fallen Hero Sign” for Cpl. Jennings including the medals and honors he received while serving his country.  Cpl. Jennings served during the Viet Nam era.  Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to approve the installation of the “Fallen Hero Sign” for Cpl. Timothy P. Jennings.  Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.
Mr. McKinnon spoke of the honor it was to be able to dedicate a “Fallen Hero Sign” to Cpl. Timothy Jennings.

Present was Mr. & Mrs. Adam Bond.  Mr. Bond informed all that the Rogue Theatre Production will be hosting a fundraiser on September 10 & 11, 2010 at the Roseland Ballroom in Taunton.  The theme for the event is Fun-de-Mental, A Journey Through Magic and Mentalism.  Mr. Bond asked for the Board’s assistance by allowing him to ask each member to sign a sealed envelope and place the envelope in a lock box.  The lock box will only be opened on the evenings of the event.  Mrs. Smith will attend on September 11.

Mr. Buckner’s Town Administrator’s Report was reviewed.

Mr. Pacheco reminded all that next Tuesday, September 14, 2010 is Election Day.

Recently, the local newspaper ran an article regarding the percentage of unemployed individuals in area cities and towns.  In June of 2010 the unemployment rate for the Town of Raynham was 8.5 and in July 2010 the rate had increased to 9.3%.  Mr. Pacheco motioned and Mr. McKinnon seconded to forward correspondence to Governor Patrick asking him to reconsider his stance on gaming and to include a copy of the article that Mr. Pacheco had from the Gazette.  Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.

Mrs. Smith informed all that the RAYCAM Annual Meeting is scheduled for September 16, 2010 at the Town Hall Meeting Room. Mrs. Smith reminded all of Pride Day scheduled for September 19, 2010 at the Borden Colony.

Correspondence – The Board received from the Highway Department information regarding the installation of a stop sign on Dean/Hill Street.  After observing the area, Mr. Stolte suggested that the intersection be a three-way stop for the safety of all.  Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to approve a 3-way intersection at Dean/Hill Street.  Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.

Correspondence – The Board received from the Cemetery Commission a request for changes in positions and hours.  The Commission requested the elimination of one position and altering hours for other positions.  Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to approve the changes submitted as long as the changes are within the Cemetery Commission budget and was in line with the Union Contracts.  Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.

Correspondence – The Board received information regarding Raynham Community Blood Drive on September 6, 2010 between 2-7pm at the Raynham Athletic Club.

Correspondence – The Board received the following requests: Tag Day -- MA 2001 Air Force Jr. ROTC Group for a candy sale on October 15, 2010; Proclamation to designate October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the Town of Raynham.  Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to approve the Tag Day for the Air Force Jr. ROTC Group and to designate October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the Town of Raynham.  Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.

7:57pm-Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to adjourn for the performance of administrative duties, signing Bills and Warrants with no business to be conducted afterwards.  Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.
