BOARD OF SELECTMEN January 18, 2011
Chairman Marie Smith called the regular meeting of the Raynham Board of Selectmen to order at 7:02pm.
Present was Marie Smith, Donald L. McKinnon and Joseph Pacheco.
Acceptance of the Minutes -- Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to accept the minutes of the January 11, 2011 meeting as printed. Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.
Correspondence – The Board received requests for Tag Days from the following: Professional Fire Fighters Association-September 2, 3 & 4; Berkley Fire Fighters Association-January 19, 20, 27 & 28; Taunton High School Jr. ROTC-April 9; Susan G. Komen 3 Mile Walk-May 1; Brian Gonsalves for a fundraiser to help Haiti Orphanages-April 4, 10, 23, & 24; Outreach Church in Brockton-April 30; Veterans Helping Veterans-May 6, 7, 8, July 22, 23 & 24; Cub Pack 87 of East Taunton-April 16, 17 and November 15. Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to approve the above listed requested dates for Tag Days. Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.
Mr. Buckner’s Town Administrator’s Report was reviewed.
Mr. Pacheco asked if the Board would like to discuss the replies received regarding Borden Colony parking area. Mrs. Smith said that correspondence was received from Park & Rec, Highway and the Police Chief regarding their opinion on opening the area for the reason of parking only. None of the Departments were condoning sledding on the site, but merely allowing residents the ability of parking for the safety of the children. Mr. Pacheco motioned and Mr. McKinnon seconded to request the Highway Department to open the area at Borden Colony for parking. Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.
The vote made does not allow sledding at Borden Colony.
Mr. Pacheco stated that the Speaker of the House is presently talking about bringing back a gaming bill in the current session. Mr. Pacheco said that Raynham Park was a perfect location for slots and the State badly needed the revenue. Mr. Pacheco motioned and Mr. McKinnon seconded to forward correspondence to the Speaker of the House, Senate President Therese Murray and Governor Duval Patrick stating Raynham’s support for slot machines at Raynham Park. Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.
Mr. McKinnon spoke of Raynham’s reduction in Local Aid from the State. Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to forward correspondence to the Department of Revenue, Senator Pacheco and State Representative D’Amelia asking them for equality in reduction for Raynham’s State Aid. Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.
7:15pm – Public Hearing – Raynham Corp. Gravel Removal Pit Renewal
Present was David Wluka representing Raynham Corp. Mr. Wluka presented the Board with the Bond for the Gravel Removal Permit and informed all that the operation has remained the same. Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to approve the renewal of Raynham Corp.’s Gravel Removal Permit pending testing of soil and an inspection. Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.
Correspondence – The Board received from the Town Clerk’s Office information regarding the resignation of Katherine McKinnon and Susan Peabody. Mr. Pacheco motioned and Mr. McKinnon seconded to accept the resignations with regret. Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.
Board members requested a letter of thanks to be forwarded to both Mrs. McKinnon and Mrs. Peabody for their many years of service as Warden and Assistant Warden of Precinct 3.
7:21pm-Mr. Pacheco motioned and Mr. McKinnon seconded to adjourn for the performance of administrative duties, signing Bills and Warrants with no business to be conducted afterwards. Mrs. Smith made it unanimous.
