Board of Selectmen Minutes 02/07/2012

BOARD OF SELECTMEN                                                            February 7, 2012


Chairman Joseph Pacheco called the regular meeting of the Raynham Board of Selectmen to order at 7:00m.

Present was Joseph Pacheco and Donald L. McKinnon

Acceptance of the Minutes – Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to accept the minutes of the January 31, 2012 meeting as printed.  The vote made it unanimous.

Marilyn Whalley, Director of Community Planning and Development, was present and reviewed with the Board information within the Open Space Plan.  Ms. Whalley thanked Allison Gillum for her help in conducting the inventory of Open Space within the Town along with the Wildlands Trust for their assistance in obtaining a grant for the project.  Ms. Whalley also informed all of the needs of today and the suggested goals set forth in the plan.  Mr. Luciano, Committee member, also thanked the Wildlands Trust, Ms. Whalley and Ms. Gillum for their hard work during the process.  Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to accept and endorse the 2012 Open Space and Recreation Plan.  The vote made it unanimous.

Mr. Buckner’s Town Administrator’s Report was reviewed.

Building Inspector - Mr. Buckner said the hiring subcommittee of Mrs. Smith, Mr. Machado and himself was recommending that the Board hire Paul White of Assonet, MA for the part-time Local Building Inspector position.  Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to hire Paul White as part-time Local Building Inspector for the Town of Raynham.  The vote made it unanimous.

Mr. Pacheco informed all that the Town Clerk has advised him that the State has split two of our precincts into sub-precincts for the Congressional Districts. The Town Clerk is requesting that correspondence be forwarded to the Secretary of State stating the Town’s opposition to sub-dividing two voting precincts within the Town.  Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to forward correspondence to the Secretary of State regarding the suggested sub-division of two precincts within the Town.  The vote made it unanimous.

Correspondence – The Board received an invitation from the Bridgewater/Raynham Regional School District to attend a Suicide Prevention seminar on February 28, 2012.

Correspondence – The Board received from Senator Pacheco a request to forward a letter or resolution to the State in support of keeping the Taunton State Hospital open.  Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to forward correspondence to the State with their support of keeping the Taunton State Hospital open.  The vote made it unanimous.

Correspondence – The Board received from the MMA information regarding 2012 Local Government Breakfast- February 17 & 24 and March 2, 2012.

Correspondence – The Board received from Angelo D’Emilia a letter stating his support for Raynham in their effort to restore the Town’s share of Racing revenues that were omitted from local aid.

Correspondence – The Board received from the Highway Department a request to approve Canvas and Award of Chemical Application for Parks and Grounds to Yukon Landscapers.  Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to approve the award of Chemical Application to Yukon Landscapers.  The vote made it unanimous.

Correspondence – The Board received the following request for Tag Days.  VFW Taunton for May 24 & 25, 2012; Disabled American Veterans Chapter 57 for May 26 and August 4, 2012.  Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to approve the above-listed dates for Tag Days.  The vote made it unanimous.

7:38pm-Mr. McKinnon motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to adjourn for the performance of administrative duties, signing Bills and Warrants with no business to be conducted afterwards.  The Vote made it unanimous.
