Board of Selectmen July 11, 2017
Chairman Karen Donahue called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Present were Joseph Pacheco and Karen Donahue and Marie Smith
Acceptance of the Minutes
Mrs. Smith motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to accept the minutes of the June 27, 2017 meeting as printed, Mrs. Donahue made it unanimous.
Department Heads & Committees
Chief Jim Januse was present to update the Board on his Activity Report for the month of June. Fires, fire incidents, mva investigations, and public assist were 82; Ambulance, medical emergencies mva’s and public assist were 179; Miscellaneous inspections, fire alarm work and items of note were 106; Mutual aid fire and ambulance, 1 ambulance given, 7 ambulance received; 1fire given, 1 fire received for a total of 10. ~There were a total of 1,374 calls for June, 2017 which is less than last year. ~~Chief Januse updated the Board on several employees who have been out on extended sick leave. The Chief said they have a new ambulance and it should be in service by the first of August. He also said that he is returning $62,000 to the Town from the original
$100,000 that was appropriated for insurance money.
Town Administrator’s Report
Mr. Flaherty reviewed the Town Administrator’s Report. The vendors for painting and door replacement have begun work at the North School. Mr. Flaherty has received bids for the downstairs plumbing work from B&D and RMC.
He is waiting on Palmer Lock to submit a bid for the front door plate.
There are 5 applicants to be interviewed next week for the Senior Clerk’s position in the Treasurer/Collector’s Office.
The next Selectmen’s Meeting will be held on July 25th at 7:00 p.m. and there will be no meeting on July 18th because of the summer schedule.
The next Department Head meeting will be held on July 20th.
A few letters of complaint have been received from residents of an odor on Rt. 138. Earth Source has had the DEP come in to evaluate the situation and they have had no findings at this time. They are still monitoring it but there is nothing that they have found. Mr. Pacheco added he has spoken to a number of residents and also the DEP and through the site inspections the DEP was not able to substantiate the claims of the odor. Earth Source has made some additional improvements both preventative and as a gesture of good faith to the neighborhood and they have sent a letter highlighting the improvements that were made. He also said if the odor occurs after hours, the residents can call the Police Department.
A Tag Day request was received from Teen Challenge, they are looking for the following days: August 16th & 17th and October 18th & 20th. Mrs. Smith made a motion to approve, Mr. Pacheco seconded and Mrs. Donahue made it unanimous.
An Application was received from Rose’s for the selling of metals. Mrs. Smith made a motion to accept as long as the paperwork is in order, Mr. Pacheco seconded and Mrs. Donahue made it unanimous.
Citizen & Community Input
Ret. Chief King was present to give the Board a DVD of the Memorial Day Parade with a copy to be kept at the Library at the Legion.
7: 09 p.m. Mrs. Smith motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to adjourn for the performance of administrative duties, signing of Bills and Warrants and with an Executive Session to follow with no business to be conducted afterwards. Mrs. Donahue made it unanimous.
