Board of Selectmen Minutes 08/08/2017
Board of Selectmen                                                                                      August 8, 2017
Marie Smith called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.
Present were Joseph Pacheco, Marie Smith and Karen Donahue

Acceptance of the Minutes
Mrs. Smith motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to accept the minutes of the July 25, 2017 meeting as printed, Mrs. Donahue made it unanimous.  

Department Heads & Committees

Chief Jim Januse was present to update the Board on the activity report for the month of July.   Fires, fire incidents, mva investigations, and public assist were 96; Ambulance, medical emergencies mva’s and public assist were 174; Miscellaneous inspections, fire alarm work and items of note were 101; Mutual aid fire and ambulance, 0 ambulance given, 8 ambulance received; 1 fire given, 6 fire received for a total of 15. ~There were a total of 1,615 calls for July, 2017 which is less than last year. ~~Chief Januse updated the Board on several employees who have been out on extended sick leave.  Mrs. Donahue thanked Chief Januse for making the new ambulance available for them so see.  
Mr. Ed Buckley, Highway Superintendent was present to give his monthly report.  He has been working on the 60 drainage easements.  They will do some street sweeping and clean up the roads.  They are working on the basketball courts, they have taken down the fencing and goals and is now ready for the contractors to come in.  Murray Excavation will grind the asphalt and P.J. Keating will do the paving.  Parks and Grounds have completed replacing the split rail fence along McKinney Field and King Philip St.  They have also painted the bleachers at the Reid Softball field in North Raynham.  There has been some repair work done to the Solid Waste Facility.  He is also looking to install some privacy fencing for the facility.  They will begin the crack sealing program on the streets and will do line striping.  


An application for Constable was received from Charles Rose.  Mrs. Smith made a motion to approve, Mr. Pacheco seconded and Mrs. Donahue made it unanimous.  
Town Administrator’s Report
Mr. Flaherty reviewed the Town Administrator’s Report.  Michelle McGowan has been offered the position of Senior Clerk in the Treasurer/Collector’s Office and will begin on Friday, August 11th.  
Jeff Kelleher has helped contact contractors for the North School project.  Also, two incidents of vandalism have occurred and the Highway Department has responded.  Tim from IT has been notified of this and will install cameras on location when he is available.  The next meeting of the NS Committee will be August 23rd.  
The next scheduled Selectmen’s Meeting will be held on Monday, August 21st at 7:00 p.m. the Board is off August 15th
The next scheduled Department Head Meeting will be held on August 10th.  
Mr. Flaherty will attend the last two classes for MCPPO Training between the last week of September and the beginning of October.  
Selectmen’s Report
Mrs. Smith requested that she be appointed to help make phone calls for North School Committee.   Mr. Pacheco made a motion to approve and Mrs. Donahue  seconded .  
Mr. Pacheco went to Dennis Murphy’s retirement party, he has worked for the Fire Department for many years and he wanted to thank him for his 49 years of service to the Town.  
Mrs. Donahue said she saw on Facebook a bridge on Hewitt’s Pond that had been built by the Boy Scouts had been vandalized.   So, last Saturday, many residents came out and rebuilt it.  
There were three Tag Day requests, one from House of Hope and the other from Raynham Giants and Dighton-Rehoboth for the following dates:  Aug. 1st, 7th and 28th Mrs. Smith made a motion to approve, Mr. Pacheco seconded and Mrs. Donahue made it unanimous.  
Correspondence was received from the Comm. Of Mass. from the Division of Capital Asset Management who is looking for available space in Town.  

7: 11 p.m. Mrs. Smith motioned and Mr. Pacheco seconded to adjourn for the performance of administrative duties, signing of Bills and Warrants and with an Executive Session to follow with no business to be conducted afterwards.  Mrs. Donahue made it unanimous.
