Job Posting: Heavy Equipment Motor Operator/Laborer

The Town of Raynham Highway Department is seeking candidates for the position of Heavy Motor Equipment Operator/Laborer. In this position you will perform skilled laboring duties, operate light duty vehicles and CDL vehicle, also light and heavy motorized hydraulic equipment at an advanced level in support of the Highway Department, Maintenance of Public Ways, Solid Waste, and Parks and Grounds areas as directed. The HMEO/Laborer operates road repair equipment and a variety of mowers in grass, brush cutting operations; operate trucks, trailers as needed. This position will require participation in the Snow and Ice and On-Call programs as a condition of employment. Union step wages starting at $24.69-$26.91 per hour.

Specific Skills:

This position consists of the combined skills and responsibilities of the HMEO/Truck Driver/Laborer positions. Specific equipment operational skills and ability in the Maintenance of Public Ways area should include but not be limited to:

  • Advanced operational skills with regards to operation of all departmental equipment including but not limited to: front end loaders, backhoes, mini-excavators, mowers, street sweepers, catch basin cleaning trucks, heavy and light dump trucks, skid steer loaders, specialty brush mowers, fork lifting attachments, rollers and paving equipment. 
  • Skills necessary to install, repair and maintain Town infrastructure such as but not limited to roadways, piping system and drain collection systems.
  • Providing detailed reports and evaluations of equipment maintenance and Town infrastructure.

Required Licenses and Endorsements:

Valid Massachusetts CDL Driver’s License Class A (or) B with air brake endorsement (Class A preferred and may be required in the future as a condition of employment depending on departmental needs); Hoisting Engineers License minimum 2A or 2B. Once hired, new employees will be required to obtain any necessary specialty licenses and endorsements not in possession at the time of hire, within the initial 1-year probationary period. Probationary period may be extended at the discretion of the Highway Superintendent. 

Required Knowledge/Skills:

Position requires advanced-level skills using heavy motor equipment, as well as general maintenance knowledge and of construction, reading and writing ability equivalent to the completion of high school and specialized courses. Maintenance of any necessary continuing education courses/credits as required by the Department of Public Safety is required. Skills testing and evaluation for the safe operation of all equipment may be performed in the interest of Public Safety at any time.

Required work period

Normal work period is 40 hours per week from Monday through Friday. Scheduled and emergency overtime; as required. Unscheduled overtime; as agreed.

Must reside within 30 minutes commuting distance to Raynham.
