PUBLIC INFORMATION UPDATE ON WEST NILE VIRUS

From the Board of Health

PUBLIC INFORMATION UPDATE: WEST NILE VIRUS

August 21, 2018

Please be advised that the MA Department of Public Health has changed the state wide threat level of West Nile Virus (WNV) to Moderate. This change is primarily a result of continued positive mosquito samples found in pools across the state and recent warm, humid weather. As of today, there have been no reports of human or animal cases and no positive samples of WNV in Raynham. August through mid-October is the period for the greatest threat of mosquito borne illness. As surrounding towns have had positive samples for WNV, it is important to be cognizant of ways to minimize exposure to mosquito bites. This includes applying insect repellent and wearing long pants and sleeves when outdoors, mosquito-proofing your home by draining standing water and installing or repairing screens, and being aware of peak mosquito hours (dusk to dawn).

This is a message from the Raynham Health Department. For more information, please visit https://www.mass.gov/mosquito-borne-diseases or call the Raynham Board of Health office.
